We are passionate and intentional about student’s learning and giving them the best possible tools to be successful.

At Higher Horizons Tutoring we are dedicated to helping each learner, each day, find success and overcome constant struggles with Reading, Writing and Math. We use a multi-sensory approach that helps them visualize and understand words which will increase their reading fluency and spelling skills giving them the confidence they need to be successful.

    Brenda established Higher Horizons Tutoring in 2018 after teaching in the public school system for over 20 years. She and her husband have 4 adult children. Three of her family members are dyslexic so she knows first hand the struggles some students face.

    Beth joined Higher Horizons Tutoring in November of 2019. She teaches high school math in Grand Rapids to refugee high school students from all over the world! She and her husband live in Holland along with their four children and four dogs.

    Jill joined Higher Horizons Tutoring in 2020. She and her husband have two adult children. She has family members with dyslexia, ADHD, and hearing impairments giving her unique qualifications for understanding and tutoring students who struggle in similar areas.

    Ali joined the Higher Horizon’s Tutoring team in 2021. She has taught 8 years in the public-school setting and currently teaches 2nd grade. She understands the importance of giving each student exactly what they need and works hard to build relationships with all students. She lives in Holland and loves spending time with her family, being active and catching a sunset over the lake.

    Drew is a mathematics and economics student at Hope College. He started tutoring with Higher Horizons in 2023. As someone with ADHD and dysgraphia, he has a unique capacity to understand the super powers and struggles of a neuro-atypical mind. Drew can help your child make mathematical discoveries and connections in ways that really stick. He says, “We’re not memorizing formulas, we’re really understanding how numbers work.” When not playing with numbers, Drew likes to play Ultimate Frisbee, play the guitar, and perform card tricks.

    Sara joined Higher Horizons Tutoring during the summer of 2023. Sara is an early elementary educator in a local school district. She is passionate about being a champion for each student - allowing each student to learn and grow. Sara lives in Holland with her husband and their miniature dachshund, Penny.

    Rachel joined the Higher Horizons Tutoring team in 2023. She has 8 years of education experience. She loves instilling confidence in learners of all kinds. She and her husband live in Holland.

    Annie joined the Higher Horizons Tutoring team in 2023. She has two family members with dyslexia and understands the struggles students face. She loves finding creative and unique ways to help students enjoy learning. In her spare time she enjoys sewing, painting, and spending time with animals of all kinds.

    Aine joined the Higher Horizons Tutoring team in 2023. She is a senior at Hope College studying biomedical engineering. She has always loved working on math and science classes and trying to problem solve in those areas. In her spare time she enjoys putting together puzzles and watching Disney movies with her family.

We use a multi-sensory approach to teach students who struggle with reading to read successfully.
